Hifz Tip of the Day: Strengthening Weak Rukus

At times, certain rukus or sections of the Qur’an may feel difficult to retain. This can happen if they were not learnt thoroughly the first time or have not received enough revision. The good news is that with focus and the right approach, every weak portion can be strengthened.

Identify and Prioritise

Begin by making a list of the quarters or rukus in your Qur’an that feel weak. Prioritise these sections and work through them gradually.

Break It Down

If an entire quarter feels overwhelming, divide it into smaller parts — side by side or ruku by ruku. Approach it just as you would your daily sabaq, ensuring careful attention to accuracy and pronunciation.

Recite to a Competent Listener

Do not recite to just anyone. Choose someone who knows the Qur’an well — someone capable of catching mistakes, pointing out the Mutashabihat (similar verses), and guiding you in refining your recitation.

Use Audio Reinforcement

Another effective method is to listen to the same ruku repeatedly while walking, driving, or relaxing, then read along with it. Hearing and reciting together helps strengthen both memory and fluency.

Final Advice

Consistency, smart revision, and guidance from the right people will, with the help of Allah, turn your weak areas into strengths. With perseverance and sincerity, every portion of the Qur’an can become firm in your heart, in shā’ Allāh.
